Huge Foundation
By nicola | March 8, 2012
We launched some new work last week for The Huge Foundation. The Huge Foundation (pronounced ‘Hyoo-Gee’), lead by Harry and Reba Huge, gives high school students in Nebraska the opportunity to shine and achieve their full potential by offering two distinct scholarship opportunities and an exchange program with the University of Tartu in Estonia. Through these programs and the support of the Huge’s, scholars are given the chance to achieve great things and make a difference.
In addition to the website, the effort also included developing a brand identity for the Foundation. Check it out here.

Best of Charleston 2012
By sydney | March 7, 2012
Today is the day that the annual “Best Of Charleston” issue of the Charleston City Paper hits newsstands. I voted for many of the categories (mainly the ones involving food), and I’m happy to see that many of my picks were also voted by other Charlestonians as the city’s best. I’m a fan of this year’s Unicorn theme…it brings me back to the Lisa Frank days of my youth.

Oh, elementary school, how I miss thee.
Although I quite enjoy perusing the Readers’ Picks section of each of the major feature pages, I have to say that my favorite results are the Critics’ Picks. Not only are they informative, they’re often quite humorous. For example, Best Glitter Bomb was awarded to Rick Santorum, a reference to the glitter that was thrown on him in the days before the SC Republican Primary. Also, Best Third-Place Finish was awarded to the city of Charleston for recently being voted the Third Best City in the world, right behind Florence, Italy (#2) and Sydney, Australia (#1). My personal favorite award category was (of course), Best Argument, which was awarded to The Case For Quidditch, where the City Paper “ate crow” after badmouthing the College of Charleston Quidditch team in last year’s Best Of, calling it “The Best Indication that College Kids Have Way Too Much Time On Their Hands” and this year deciding Quidditch was actually kind of cool.

I mean, what about this DOESN'T look awesome?!
My favorite section is, obviously, the Eating and Drinking Out section. I mean, I spend my free time blogging about Charleston restaurants, so obviously this section has my name written all over it. I was happy to see that my local obsession, Chef Sean Brock, won the award for Best Chef (did you catch him on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern the other night? Now *that* is quality television). I was also really happy to see that they added the “Best Food Truck” category this year (and congrats to Roti Rolls for winning), since Food Trucks are becoming so prevalent in Charleston’s culinary culture. My goal for the rest of this year is to try out all of the restaurants on this list that I have not already visited. So that’s (surprisingly) about 80% of the listings on the page…. Looks like I’ve got a busy year ahead of me.

In case you missed it, Friday evening marked the launch of Charlie’s beautiful new magazine, celebrating Charleston’s 50 most progressive… people who through their various efforts and speciality, are making a positive impact on the future of our great city.
We were all very proud (though not surprised) to see our very own Robert Prioleau featured amongst the list. Congratulations Robert!

Charleston’s Data Points
By nicola | February 23, 2012
We really enjoyed working on these fun data points for the Charleston Regional Development Alliance. Not only because we love developing infographics, but it’s also great to get to call attention to and highlight Charleston’s strengths and expertise in our various industry sectors.
You can see them here sprinkled throughout CRDA’s target industry section: Advanced Security & IT, Aerospace, Biomedical, Wind Energy.

Author Rank [REL=AUTHOR] Infographic
By Casey Gold | February 21, 2012
Stumbled across a nice infographic by BlueGlass, which helps explain what author rank is and how to setup (their site also includes two introductory videos so definitely take a look.) Using this attribute is becoming more and more important as search engines continue to favor fresh content. If you’re publishing content, you need to implement the rel=”author” attribute.

The Future of the Lowcountry
By mike | February 8, 2012

Ever stop to think what the Charleston area will look like in the next 15 years? How can we keep a consistent quality of life and maintain what makes the Lowcountry special?
There’s a meeting being held tonight by the Lowcountry Open Land Trust at the library on Calhoun Street to help shape those views and engage the public about the best way to get there. Head over and make your voice heard. It all goes down tonight, Feb 8th at 5:30pm. See you there.

Ruff Work

Lowcountry Dog Magazine wrote an excellent article about “dog-friendly” office spaces in the Charleston area. Featured spaces include Blue Ion, BoomTown and SPARC.
We are thrilled and honored to see our pups grace the pages of such a lovely magazine. If you get a chance, check out the article and be sure to sign up for the printed version. At only $25 a year, why not?
