Today we released the latest version of Matt Decell’s contemporary furniture website. Matt is a friend and wicked furniture designer/builder, and it’s been a pleasure working with the master and Gil to share these designs with the public through the web. While Matt’s furniture is displayed in showrooms in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington DC, New York, and Dania, FL…..they’re only accessible to interior designers and architects.

As I was walking with BD and RY down King on the way to our regular Friday lunch spot, we hit the Calhoun/King Street intersection that seems to consistently have 20mph winds rocketing down the street towards the water. In light of Santee Cooper’s recent announcement that they will begin installing testing stations for future wind power along the SC coast, I present to you (in all its potential glory) this professional depiction of a downtown Charleston windfarm.

Had a lot of fun last night at the inaugural Charleston Pecha Kucha. The atmosphere was great (free beer always helps) and the speakers did an awesome job. Came away feeling really good about the local creativity scene. Personal favorites were DJ Brady, Quashie, and Jacob Lindsey. It was a solid showing all around.

Great job to everyone who put it together. Looking forward to the next one in January.

Congrats to the Huff + Gooden team on the launch of their New York City office at 127 West 25th. Mario and Craig worked up a celebratory background for the website.

This had implications for us recently, as client and good friends Force Protection wanted to put video online of a recent MRAP (if you don’t know what this is, you need to know) appreciation event held by the government. Field Service Reps and warriors in Iraq and Afghanistan wanted to see what they missed out on. We couldn’t post the videos to YouTube because of the viewing restriction, so we went with Vimeo instead.

Hard to say if TroopTube will take off, but even Hulu was mocked as a bad corporate knock-off when it first arrived on the scene and now has found its niche.

If you have the time, it’s worthwhile to check out this piece from the event - a Staff Sergeant recounts a tale from Iraq in which he was on the receiving end of 10 IEDs and a rocket propelled grenade… all on one road. It’s pretty unreal.

AIGA Awards

Made the trek to Columbia last weekend to attend the 2008 AIGA InShow Awards - honoring the best in print, interactive, TV, and student work from around the state. For those of you who don’t know, AIGA is “the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design.” 

Blue Ion proudly accepted interactive awards for Mary Norton, Bundoran Farm, and Caviar & Bananas.

Congrats to our local friend Hook USA, Gil Shuler Graphic Design (best in show winner), Gunter Design Company, SideShow Press, and FORMO for taking home a few awards as well and representing for Chucktown.

Clever bit of marketing from Holland based CoffeeCompany… they’ve been changing the name of their wi-fi networks to promote menu items, weekly specials, and to politely remind those using their wi-fi to buy another coffee… Possible network names include: “OrderAnotherCoffeeAlready” and “HaveYouTriedCoffeeCake”.
