There’s No “My” In “We”

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

It’s about time that all the internet-related “my” hype dies. Isn’t the “Me Decade” supposed to be over? Wasn’t that the 80s or 90s? Together, WE can end the MYbrandname.com trend. It’s not really just your brand anyway, is it?

So, here’s to more “we” in our lives. We = community, connections, social networks, etc. I like Al Gore’s new We Can Solve It campaign to end global warming. It’s important, hip, positive and even looks fun. Me is just a backwards and upside version of we anyway. And most of all, we is something we can do together.

A Common Bond

endurance-50.jpg

As I follow the progress of ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes’ feat of endurance, 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days in 50 different states, I find myself reflecting on the bond shared among high performance athletes like Dean and our own table tennis athletes. Be it the pursuit of athletic excellence, individual achievement, adherence to the principles of sound body and mind, or a profound sense of camaraderie…it’s inspiring to watch birds of a feather constantly push their limits to new heights. I raise my glass these runners and ping pongers, for their drive inspires us all to shoot for the stars every day.

Day 5… entering the home stretch. CA and RP have a solid lead at 4-0 each. Are there any contenders left who can knock them both from their perch?

Serving Four

The mid-point of the tournament is upon us with the pack beginning to separate. The rhetoric has cooled a bit over the weekend… leave it to Simpson v Dadin to re-ignite the flaming torch of the Ping Pong games with the first challenge of the day.

Third day of the competition. Electricity is in the air after yesterday’s final match between RP & RY. The trash talk is getting intense… no-one seems to be spared. Warriors are leaving everything they have on the battleground. The question on everyone’s mind now - will there be any survivors left amongst the ruins of shattered egos and bruised self-worth.

As always, check back for today’s results.

Although losing his second match to the now 1-1 “The Simp”, highlights like these just can’t be overlooked. Campy Campbell pulled off the most difficult maneuver in the game of Pong, made famous by Kim Taek Soo, the SooDo Cartwheel. Down two games, Campy Campbell is anticipated to bounce back with his match against the Dade-O, who sports analysts have projected a 3400:1 chance of winning…even one match.
