Time to take a step back from all of the social networks and grooming posts of the past week and do some shameless plugging for a few clients with online stores.
• First up is Folbot, where for this month only you can get Free Shipping on any order over $500. Not bad, considering snagging a folding kayak will easily make you eligible. Start paddling!
• Next is the Charleston Angler, where for this week only you can get 25% Off all apparel items in the store. Be like JC and sport some crocs! Be sure to enter coupon code: 25OFF
• Finally is Arcadia Publishing - although they’re not currently running a promotion, you can take advantage of their no-strings-attached standard Free Shipping and pick up a book about the town you live in/fell in love with/want to know more about. Hit the Catalog Search

Do your part… increase the consumer confidence metric and spend some of that government rebate check. Heck, grab a Fish’n'Photo Edisto, an Angler Tshirt to wear, and a book to read on Charleston while you wait for the fish to bite this summer.
Yeah, that’s right, I used an animated gif. You love it

Title Art
Friday, June 13th, 2008
I’ve always been a big fan of movie title sequences. When done correctly, they really help set the tone for a film, and in some cases (Bond, Iron Man, Spiderman) even give you a bit of the synopsis of what lies ahead. Almost like reading the chapter titles in a new book for hints of what’s to come before you start reading.
Got the link below in the mail today from our good friend and illustrator Warner McGee. It’s essentially a blog that chronicles favorite title sequences of the author - quickly clicking through you can see why most were chosen. Check it all out in its video glory soon before they get hit with copyright notices.
See it here at Art of the Title.

Finally. MySpace Gets a Redesign.
Friday, June 13th, 2008Man, is it about time. I’ve always hated the cluttered MySpace interface (one reason I’m on Facebook instead), so it’s nice to read about their upcoming relaunch of “MySpace 2.0.”
You can read the full rundown of features on TechCrunch, but here’s a quick highlight, and a couple screens.
Changes:
- Home page
- Nav
- Search
- TV Player
- Profile Editor
Screens:

In competitive news, Facebook just caught MySpace in terms of unique visitors. This is worldwide… MySpace still rules in the U.S.

Covering Your Tails
Thursday, June 12th, 2008Amid all the hub-bub of the shave-o-matic premiere we managed to release a new starter site/blog for VetCareComplete, a new pet health insurance company in Richmond, VA. Because they were just coming out of the blocks we were able to help with overall brand planning, the new identity and tagline and the stage 1 site. The blog will be the basis of a community platform, while a companion site will rollout once the insurance plans are finalized and the company is ready to begin servicing customers and affiliate vets. In the meantime, look for true life stories from the founders (practicing veterinarians) about the crazy things pets get themselves into and therefore the reason they need comprehensive health insurance (just like their owners). Thanks to Matt, Keith and A.J.

Strawberry Shortcake’s Extreme Makeover
Wednesday, June 11th, 2008In a celebrity expose, the New York Times reports on Strawberry Shortcake’s continued makeover. The 1980s superstar was feeling a bit doughty in this 21st century…so she’s had work done and continues to adopt significant wardrobe and dietary changes. In recent years her eyes and cheekbones have been “enhanced,” bloomers were tossed out in favor of polka-dot capri pants, she’s wearing lipstick, and eating fresh fruit instead of all that candy. Apparently, American Greetings and her stylist team thought she was out of touch with today’s girls.
Celebrity makeovers are tricky, as the Times reports. In 1993 Mattel’s stylists tried to work with Ken but the resulting Earring Magic Ken….sporting blond highlights, a purple mesh t-shirt and leather vest, and the eponymous earring…..bombed with girls, boys and concerned parents alike.

Feltron Annual Report
Thursday, June 5th, 2008Just paged through the Feltron 2007 Annual Report from designer Nicholas Felton. Pretty cool on two levels (at least). The way he’s presented and visualized the data is awesome…a different approach that communicates simply and powerfully. But the actual data collection itself is the really interesting part. He’s chronicled an entire year’s worth of his activity…down to the minutia of postcards received, teeth lost by his cat, karaoke songs performed, etc. Would be a interesting way to break down the activities of an organization over the course of a year….to get a clearer picture of what’s going on. We’ll get James on it.

Microsoft Live Search Cashback: Some Links
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008
Microsoft may get hated on constantly, but $30Billion+ in the bank lets you hang around and come up with some potentially good ideas from time to time.
Last week they unveiled Microsoft Live Search Cashback - an attempt to win back market share from Google by paying you back for using their ecommerce search engine.
Needless to say, it generated quite a buzz across the tech world. Here are a few of the better pieces of analysis to get you caught up on the situation

There’s No “My” In “We”
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008It’s about time that all the internet-related “my” hype dies. Isn’t the “Me Decade” supposed to be over? Wasn’t that the 80s or 90s? Together, WE can end the MYbrandname.com trend. It’s not really just your brand anyway, is it?
So, here’s to more “we” in our lives. We = community, connections, social networks, etc. I like Al Gore’s new We Can Solve It campaign to end global warming. It’s important, hip, positive and even looks fun. Me is just a backwards and upside version of we anyway. And most of all, we is something we can do together.
