The Pacific

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The must-watch miniseries of the year starts up this Sunday night on HBO with the first episode of The Pacific. We’ve been waiting for this moment for over a year as HBO slowly leaked out new trailers. The Hanks/Spielberg team that produced Band of Brothers is back to tell the stories of three real-life Marines [...]

DC Bike Station

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I hit tonight’s Revolution on 2 Wheels lecture…the series is organized by the Charleston Civic Design Center (thanks) and sponsored by mybikelaw and Charleston Moves (thanks). This week’s presenter was Bill Gallagher, a principal at KGP Design Studio in DC who leads their urban design and transportation studios. After a half inspiring/half depressing slide show [...]

Angry Hockey Bear

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Just saw this doozy over at Burnt Orange Nation. It’s perhaps the most awesomely over-the-top sports team intro video ever made. Introducing your 2009-2010 Alaska Nanooks…

Compare with the original intro from the 2008-2009 season….this year they upgraded the graphics and increased the number of explosions. Can’t wait to see what they work up next season. [...]

SkiFree

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Was watching Olympic skiing tonight and thought of this Windows 3.1 classic from back in the day. Watch out for the snowman!
Edit: For all the crybabies that apparently read the blog with sound turned up, I’ve disabled the embed and you’ll have to click the image to play the game. Why do you all hate [...]

Another nice example of how cities can take simple steps to improve bicycle accessibility. NYC is transforming 225 of its parking meters into bike racks. Simply chop off the working part of the meter and attached a circular piece of metal. Done. The new racks cost $300 to set up, and save the city $200 [...]

Take It Easy, Drink In Moderation

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

This weekend was spent exploring the mountains of NC and a box of Anthon Berg chocolate liqueurs. Miniature chocolate bottles, filled with Cutty, Galliano, Sauza, Danzka, JD, Grand Ma or Cointreau. Originally introduced in 1884, for the last 50+ years Anthon Berg has borne the distinguished title “Purveyors to the Royal Danish Court.” They’re so [...]

Steven Seagal is….LAWMAN

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

After tonight’s state-o-union switch over to A&E to awesome things up with an episode of their new series Lawman. There’s no denying, Steven Seagal IS the Marlon Brando of low-action reality cop shows. He’s even grown the gut to match. I already ordered my 3 disc collector’s set, wrapped in a monogramed keepsake “bulletproof” vest. [...]

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

This really belongs on the 301 blog, but I wanted to share a pic of the sign going up today on our new building. The “blue” is being worked on today – “ion” happens (around the corner) tomorrow morning.
