Last Day Thoughts
Tuesday, March 11th, 2008The last morning of SXSW Internet fantasy camp…it’s back to reality this afternoon. As I reflect on the experience and what we’ve seen, two things have become very clear.

First and foremost, the game is changing. Moving from building things for people to visit to creating experiences that follow users wherever they go. There are sooo many digital channels today (websites, microsites, search, mobile applications, social media/networks, rich media, email, blogs, etc.) and new devices like the iPhone are allowing users to access all the data in more delightful ways. The challenge and opportunity is to create multiple/mini brand experiences that weave into and around peoples lives. For a great example, look at the brilliant Nike+ effort. It’s not just a campaign or a website…it’s a branded application that has changed the face of running by harnessing the power of music, exercise and community around a user’s life. It looks cool, and works great. It’s about runners and their lives.

Second, it’s clear that my airport card sucks…or that there’s something very wrong with it. One of the best things about this conference is the people/crowd watching (those observations in a separate post to come). I haven’t been to a conference before where EVERY attendee in EVERY session has their laptop on their lap….typing, tweeting, messaging away. At times I’ve just had to pretend, given my constantly weak signal. Time to breakdown and get a new rig.

What do you get when you combine Millennium Music’s Feed Your Player promotion with 1,000 CDs? Free iPhones, of course.
RY has been cooking up a scheme for the past few weeks wherein he would buy CDs in bulk from eBay to augment his own personal collection. The end goal is to trade the discs in for digital lifestyle devices. We literally have stacks of these CDs piled up in the office…

Authorized Apple Repair and Dealership In Charleston SC
Thursday, March 29th, 2007I first heard the rumors earlier this month, but I can now confirm: L2 Technologies is now Charleston’s only authorized Apple repair and dealership.
Make sure to visit Scot at their new store on Johns Island. I made a trip out there yesterday to drop off my eMac for some much-needed repairs. They’ve got a nice place and even better service. The only thing they’re missing is a Web site. I know someone that could help. : )
So, please spread the word while they wait for Apple to add them to their authorized provider search tool.

iPhone
Tuesday, January 9th, 2007
The new Apple iPhone was introduced today. Current debate in the office revolves around the size of the phone, how many hours of Justin Timberlake and Beyonce it can store, and whether the hand model shown in the photo above will meet the same fate as Ray McKigney.
