Bike Share System

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Came across this nice bike sharing system concept from Continuum. It’s an unmanned, self-service kiosk that allows you to swipe a public transit smart card and grab a bike. It’s nice and urban compact….14 bicycles racked on the station occupy the same amount of space as a parking space for one car. And solar energy powers the card readers and security system.

More and more of these bike share/kiosks are popping up in cities worldwide. It’s time to make it happen here in Charleston.

Microsoft Live Search Cashback: Some Links

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Microsoft may get hated on constantly, but $30Billion+ in the bank lets you hang around and come up with some potentially good ideas from time to time.

Last week they unveiled Microsoft Live Search Cashback - an attempt to win back market share from Google by paying you back for using their ecommerce search engine.

Needless to say, it generated quite a buzz across the tech world. Here are a few of the better pieces of analysis to get you caught up on the situation

Well, it was a humdinger of a game.  Both teams battled it out but Man U took the title in penalty kicks.

Well done lads!

Champions League Final

Nike Champions League Ad
Nike Champions League Ad

Today is a very exciting day indeed.  We’re literally hours away from the biggest game in English football history.

The stage is set.  Today at 2:45 EST, Manchester United and Chelsea will meet and fight it out to be crowned the kings of European football in the Champions League final tonight in Moscow. And it’s big. Huge in fact; as this will be the first time ever that two English teams have met in the final.

We’ll see who comes away with the title.  It’ll be a tough match no doubt as Man U fight to secure their second title and Chelsea their first.

Come on you reds!

There’s No “My” In “We”

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

It’s about time that all the internet-related “my” hype dies. Isn’t the “Me Decade” supposed to be over? Wasn’t that the 80s or 90s? Together, WE can end the MYbrandname.com trend. It’s not really just your brand anyway, is it?

So, here’s to more “we” in our lives. We = community, connections, social networks, etc. I like Al Gore’s new We Can Solve It campaign to end global warming. It’s important, hip, positive and even looks fun. Me is just a backwards and upside version of we anyway. And most of all, we is something we can do together.

McMahan’s Mini Museum

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

While the fancy culture high season doesn’t officially start until Friday with the launch of Spoleto, this weekend we did attend the opening of world’s largest collection of the greatest works of art…in miniature form. Richard McMahan has spent the past 18 years producing over 1,100 tiny replicas of cave paintings, Greek and Roman art, Cubist masterpieces, art nouveau furniture, etc. He’s never been to the Louvre or Prado, but he has studied all the works through books in his local library in Jacksonville.

It’s a pretty incredible site…and journey through the history of art. The display itself is worth the visit, as students from the Clemson Architecture Center in Charleston developed a unique and fitting exhibition space located within the College of Charleston library.

Check it out online…and then head over for a visit.

Get Ready for Caviar & Bananas

Friday, May 16th, 2008

At lunch today we dropped in our friends at Caviar & Bananas market. Margaret, Kris and the team are in the final stages of set up…getting ready for Monday’s grand opening. The place looks awesome, and the food and drink selections are mouth watering. Downtown has been waiting too long for a market/cafe like this.

Congrats to the C&B family and be sure to stop by on Monday to check it out. In fact, stop by everyday to indulge your senses.

Venango Trails, PA

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Recently finished up an introductory site for friends up in Pittsburgh, PA. Venango Trails is a New Urban community coming to life just north of the city center…..on the site of an old golf course. A nice example of adaptive reuse. Stay tuned for evolutions as a community comes to life.

Photo Shoot BTS

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Spent all day yesterday at a photo shoot for a new website we’re working on for an assisted living community. Bishop Gadsden is more like a swanky resort than you’d imagine. We stayed so long we had the residents calling us by first name towards late afternoon.

I brought along my camera to capture the process from our perspective. As you can see, Brennan spends most of his time just laying around.
