All Aboard!
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008At Blue Ion, we’ve always been advocates of alternative transportation. Of course, people drive to work primarily… but collectively we’ve walked, rode bikes, carpooled with other employees, and even taken CARTA from time to time. Much to our surprise, CS, one of our star Alt-Transport team members recently showed up on this!

From the blue overalls to the conductor’s hat, we commend you CS on taking authenticity to another level.
You know what?
We like trains too.
CHOO CHOO my friend, choo choo…

Two Big Yahoo! Product Announcements
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008A couple of neat product announcements from Yahoo! came out over the last couple of days.
First up is their “Open Search Platform,” which allows third parties (like Blue Ion, hopefully) to modify your search results listings by adding images, more links, and hopefully some sweet animated gifs.
Here’s one from Yelp!

And here’s one I did for Blue Ion.

Learn more about it at the Yahoo! Search blog or from TechCrunch.
Second is the launch of Yahoo! Buzz. Similar to Digg, the more votes you get, the higher your story, video, etc. will go.
Bonus: some of the most popular stories make it to Yahoo! home page! Supposedly they sent Wired 2 million visitors when that happened to one of their posts.
Check out Yahoo! Buzz here, and more analysis at TechCruch.

Blue Ion Welcomes A New Team Member
Monday, February 18th, 2008MEET MONIKA.

Blue Ion is pleased to introduce the newest member of our team; Monika Gauthier, Interactive Art Director.
Monika hails from Bratislava, Slovakia, where she witnessed the fall of communism and the opening of the former Eastern block. She started her career in design and advertising in 1994. After summers spent by traveling the world, winters skiing in the mountains and working hard in advertising agencies she decided to move to the USA.
Aside from her passion for design, Monika offers a unique approach to the creative side of the Blue Ion team, and has been working closely with us on several projects over the past year.
Also, please give a warm welcome to Angie, her 14 year old Cocker Spaniel, which brings our dog total to 5 when all are present.

Going Nowhere
Friday, February 15th, 2008
In reviewing some images from a photo shoot last fall, I came across this one. Two of the BI partner’s children trying to pull a 100 lb. dog (or elephant) up a hill in the I’On neighborhood. They didn’t get very far…

Clever Bloggery
Friday, February 8th, 2008We’ve spent some time the past few weeks working on a different sort of web project. Our friends at DPS wanted to explore another avenue for reaching their property owners and club members that didn’t involve the typical quarterly print newsletter. A blog is a natural choice, but as is often the case, all posts are not created equal (present site included).
To counter that, we baked in a method of showing a “best-of” sampling of posts. What results feels a lot like an online newsletter, with the added benefit that other than the basic upfront design and structure, DPS is free to customize the content and placement as often as they want.
Check them both out at:

Super Model Shoot
Wednesday, February 6th, 2008It’s not everyday that you get to manage a super model video shoot…but yesterday we did just that. In this case the said model happened to be a 4′ x 6′ detailed replica of the Cigar Factory building. With the guidance and technical know-how of Ryan Cockrell and team we captured some great footage that will allow us to bring it all to life on a soon-to-come website. Stay tuned.
