Back In The Game

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

In the past year we’ve had an unfortunate string of knee injuries at BI, and the latest victim was our four-legged friend Gus. But there’s good news to report. Today the doggy doc said it’s not his ACL (he’s a jumper) but instead a “slippery knee cap.” While that sounds rough…doc says it shouldn’t bother him and he’s cleared to play. And program. Cheers to Gus.

Getting The Band Back Together…At Best Buy

Monday, November 26th, 2007

If you stop by Best Buy’s gaming section this holiday season you’re likely to see a scene not too different from that pictured above. EA’s new release of Rock Band has hit the stores and impromptu jam sessions of rockstar wannabes are being held daily at the demo stations. Sales have been brisk.

Rock Band takes the Guitar Hero experience to a new level (11) with multiple hook ups for guitar, drums and mic. Say what you will about 14 and 40 year olds rocking out to Tom Sawyer….but the game is quite innovative and a major advance of interaction by having players use instruments (well…controllers) together to create beautiful music. It’s a great multiplayer experience. And isn’t living out rock star fantasies more productive than killing monsters and collecting treasure?

Two Steak and Kidney Pies, Please

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Mmmmm. You think cheesy nachos at half-time are good? How about some Kickin’ Chicken Friday? Those delicacies pale in comparison to the stuff served at the English Premier League soccer games.Steak and Kidney, Cheese and Onion, Meat and Potato, and RY’s favorite, the Jumbo sausage roll are just a few of the concessionary samplings.Cheers to the NYTimes slideshow and article for reminding me that fake cheese is still better than Cornish pasties.

Congrats To Garden & Gun

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Our friends at Garden & Gun magazine did quite well last night at the annual Min Magazine awards event in NYC. They landed second place in the “Hottest Launch” category (magazines launched within the past year in the U.S)….and first place in the Best Editorial Direction category.

In the Hottest Launch catgegory, G&G was sandwiched between two heavyweights. Taking the number one slot was Conde Nast’s new Portfolio magazine, and at number three was Outside’s GO.

Read more on the Min website.

Congrats to all at G&G for the well deserved recognition.

Skate and Bake

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Err… Cake and Bake… no, wait… Skake and Cate. Whatever you call it, good friend Ryan Cockrell and group Pour It Now are holding an event to raise money for a new Charleston skate park. Can you really raise $1.5 million hocking cupcakes? Here’s to a massive sugar-induced giving mania.

Life on the Farm

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Last week we launched the new site for Bundoran Farm….a unique preservation development community just outside of Charlottesville, VA. Bundoran is a spectacular place. 2,300 acres of rolling hills, working farmland, meadows and forests. The intent is to carefully add about 100 residences to the mix to create a community that actually supports and preserves the working farm. Let’s hope this type of thoughtful development becomes the norm in similar rural/agricultural areas.
