Alter Egos
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
Photographer Robbie Cooper has been studying the relationship between gamers’ real and online identities, and recently published a book, Alter Ego: Avatars and Their Creators, that features photos (real/avatar) and bios of gamers. It’s an interesting look at online culture and supports the case that virtual identity is sometimes more reflective of a person’s personality and character than their image in the real world.

The self-images that people create vary, but most show some true reflection of the person in the avatar character….either physical or emotional. However, avatars tend to be less “ordinary” than the person behind them. Most people go for human characters or at least human variations, while using their online persona to experiment and/or explore something they want to be.
And in games where people can gender-bend…men are much more likely to than females. Hmmm…that would explain Chrissy.

BD’s BD Week
Wednesday, July 18th, 2007We’re in the midst of a week long celebration of a milestone birthday for BD. The festivities kicked off Saturday night with a party (pics to come) that included a feats of strength competition. Events included Wii Olympic circuit, cutthroat pool and scotch bonnet pepper eating. Not sure if anyone won.

Today’s ceremonies featured a lunch hour wing fest. As a result, productivity is way down this afternoon.

Working the their team and Hook USA we set out to develop a website that behaved just like they do…smart, calm, inviting, attentive, polished. Take the quick “compatibility test” on the home page and see if you’re a match.

Nintendo Wii Fit
Thursday, July 12th, 2007Nintendo is doing it again with Wii Fit.

After taking last year’s E3 by storm with the introduction of the Wii, they’ve raised the bar again with the Wii Fit.
It’s basically a “pressure sensitive balance board” (kinda like the Wobble Boards), that can be used in a variety of workout-like games/activities.
From their site:
The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games.
It even has a way for America’s chubby kids to track their Body Mass Index over time! I wonder how hard it is to play while drinking a Mountain Dew dinner?

KrustyO’s and Squishees
Thursday, July 5th, 2007
Fox and 7-Eleven just launched a nice promo for the premiere of The Simpsons movie (opening later this month). Instead of the usual movie/fastfood toys and trinkets approach…they are converting 6,000 7-Elevens across the nation into Kwik-E-Marts. It’s pop-up retail promotion with a great fit. Nice to see a corporate brand having a bit of fun at its own expense. Best of all, you’ll be able to buy KrustyO’s, Squishees and Buzz Cola. Enjoy.

Ethanol Power
Monday, July 2nd, 2007Friday also marked the launch of a new site for Ethanex Energy….an innovative ethanol company that’s pushing the industry to higher and higher levels of performance. The team at Hook developed an engaging brand idea and identity for this new company and we enjoyed taking it to the web. Included in the site is an animated illustration showing how their ethanol plants work….as well as the unique benefits driven from their technology. More to come on this site as the company and industry continue to boom.
